Breeding and Birthing Facilities

At AEA Burong, we have a long history of breeding successfully both at stud and using Artificial Insemination (AI) techniques.Dirk began breeding with stallion Granada in the early 1980s, and is now breeding fifth and sixth generation horses. In the late 1980s, Dirk was one of the first in Australia to import frozen semen, bringing the strong bloodlines of European champions to Australia. This strengthened the gene pool and allowed breeding of fantastic warmbloods and thoroughbreds.
We believe we have developed strong techniques for breeding, ensuring that mares and stallions are comfortable and happy during the stud process. When using AI techniques, we also lead the field with undercover collection and insemination areas. We perform all our own embryo transfers.
We perform all of our own ultrasounding and pregnancy testing, minimising the number of people the mare has to deal with, and ensuring we are fully informed about all aspects of the pregnancy.
At birthing time, mares in our care receive expert assistance to deliver in one of our hygienic and comfortable birthing areas.
We also provide fresh and frozen sperm for use at other breeding facilities. Again, we perform all of our own work onsite, from collection to preparation and freezing. In this way we can assure you that the sample you receive is in prime condition for use.
If you're looking to breed your mares, talk to us about the bloodlines you can access through us.
And if you're interested in working with us to learn more about breeding techniques and pregnancy/birthing assistance, feel free to get in touch. We often have openings for dedicated and passionate horse people to work in our breeding area.
