Our Training Facilities
Training horses is a significant part of our work at AEA Burong. Over the years, we've built up our routines and philosophies to ensure we get the best from each horse.
Each day, horses in our care are taken for riding exercise, followed by a warm water wash to prevent muscles from cooling and seizing uncomfortably. The outdoor riding surface is rubber and sand based all weather surface that is non-dusty and non-slip for safety of horse and rider.
After exercise, for horses who have been worked very hard, there's the horse walker to allow a slower and more complete cool down. After warm washing, most horses like to bask in the warmth of solarium lamps, and we believe that this also helps blood circulation through the all-important back muscles. This will be available before next winter.
Training philosophy
Dirk's training philosophies have been heavily influenced by those of Sjef janssen ,Partner and trainer of Anky van Grunsven. Overall, Sjef's philosophies prevail in our training regimes, and we believe this results in very supple horses with great working attitudes. A happy horse works well.
We train not only to competition outlines, but also in stretching and movement. We believe gymnastic exercise is essential for flexibility, and that horses that train only in competition outlines are likely to present as stiff and rigid. We prefer a more rounded approach to training, to produce a healthy, happy, supple and athletic horse.
